Day 2-Ramen, men!

What's something nice about being in an official business is the business after the official business. Crazy right? Yes,  that's food business I'm talking about. Simply because I have a nice boss who likes nice foods, and today is no different. I'm glad I won't get the karinderia lunch fix today. That-oily, fatty, not quite healthy ulam which you don't have any choice at all because the next food stall is two blocks away- and fast food is just boring right? Say yes.

Ukokei ramon ron

Morning meeting with Japanese partners ended well. Good job. So Jon-san was too generous to splurge a bit for some ramen. Wait, not just any ramen, but Ukokei ron. My 3rd time so far in this restaurant,  but I would never get tired of it, even Nagatomo-san enjoyed the satisfying and hearty
Ukkokei Ramen Ron.

The Good

This time, I ordered Higawari lunch set consisting of Ukkokei Shoyu Ramen "soy based" (own choice) mini donbouri, salad, kobachi and some free cold house tea. A complete set of meal. I think this is a good choice. The place is not too fancy, but a homey-Japanese feel. That's all I needed.

The not so good

Although per bowl serving is good for 2 persons, sharing and taking out is not allowed! Well, honestly, I can't normally finish single bowl-I think it's just quite too much for me. I would suggest they have at least half servings for Ramen. Apart from no own restroom in this branch, all seemed whowkay. (But since I'm a regular, they allowed me to take home the remaining ramen.)

Yeah, men

So, all good things happen in one day, a good meeting, good opportunities ahead of us, and Nagatomo-san was happy to get some home food, and we are glad he liked it here. At the end of the day, all I could think of was my stomach, ramenful , ramen yeah men!

Love,
itsmelory (^.^)

Note to self:  Next time, come in hungry to finish the bowl completely! No pressure.

Day 1-Work, just like that

Today's a busy day but thankfully a quiet one. I spent the entire afternoon doing my manager's assignment (joke) and checking updates due for Mancom's discussion. Hey we, women knows how to do 2 things at once. Versatile as that. Beats me.

What work looks like

Such a breeze! The usual BBC news habit which I have subscribed since I'm 10 minutes early for work. It's a relief to read that Israel-Gaza have agreed a ceasefire yet again, but quite horrified that Iraq is at war now and the US sending air strikes, Robin Williams, the Robin Williams was confirmed a suicide, the Ebola virus spread. Everything in the news is just terrible.
I'm grateful that we are here but at the same it's so horrible to realize that other part of the world is experiencing such ordeals. My day went on just like my other days would be. Monitoring my teams' IT, signing orders, signing requests, and oh I remembered our President dropped by my room asking about the presentation due on Friday. Okay, so is it time to panic?! I mapped out my priorities for the day: sending updates to our Japanese partner, finalizing proposal to another, too busy to notice that its past lunchtime-not until my boylet texted me. So I missed lunch (again) I hope I don't get stomach troubles for this! I love it when I'm busy and feeling productive like this. Keep it coming.

but what's with the puffy eyes?!

Please please brain, cooperate.

Work just like that,

Ghost month

Glenda, Inday -so much for all these typhoons. How is it for you buddy? Lucky for me I'm still in one piece. This raining makes me wanna sleep longer,  do you?? Oh Hola August! Which means we're 4 months away to the end of the year and Christmas and New Year and 2015. Amazing huh? Do you even notice time is running quite fast, really fast.

So before we can even begin celebrating Christmas, there's our usual All Saints and All Souls come November. Semester break by October. Sure, we don't celebrate Moon Cake festival here in September although I've seen lots of stalls around malls with mooncake offerings for some Chinese kababayan. August is apparently Linggo ng Wika right? Now you remember your elementary days wearing baro't saya with matching bakya..haha. Funny days. But, have you heard of Ghost month?

Oh Ghost month

During ghost month, the Gates of Hell are opened allowing dead spirits to wander in the world of the living. This makes the ghost month a bad time to do activities like travelling, starting a new business, contract signing, swimming, strolling, celebrating, even marrying. In short, anything important that you'd like to do is a no-no during the hungry ghost month. This year 2014 Ghost month starts Jul 27 and will end Aug 24. If you would like to know more of do's and don'ts during this time please click
here.
Buddhist countries like Japan, Malaysia, India, Singapore, China and HK have always believed that Ghost Month is the most ill fated time of the year, so extra caution should be taken.

We are all alike

Like All Souls day celebration, we put food offerings to honor our dead and please them. During ghost month a food feast with beer and wine, paper money is held for the spirits which if well-fed and happy~ in return the spirits will bring prosperity and abundance to the family.
This custom is just one of too many handed down beliefs from generations to generations that we may not fully understand because (we're not Chinese, that's one). Buddhist and Christians have different faith but somehow we are all alike in some aspects like the most basic human value of respecting our departed love ones. I was raised to follow this tradition of honoring the dead and I think there is nothing wrong by believing in Ghost month too.
Ghost month reminds us that there is a greater power above us all.  This is a time of prayer and spiritual value because prayer works!

May blessings come upon you,

K-Domination

Earlier today I come a crossed a couple of high school students - boisterous for that matter almost jumping off their seats while covering their mouth to thwart a scream over a certain magazine at nearby 7/11 store. I can't help but think shouldn't they be at school at this time?!!! While I'm concentrating on my cup of coffee trying hard to keep awake feeling grumpy on a gloomy Thursday since I overworked myself.. okay that's a lie I stayed late actually watching Game of Thrones when something caught my attention. So these high schoolers were in fact skimming through a KPop Magazine. There's no denying the world's been taken by these Kpop phenomenon in terms of fashion and music. Now everyone wants to look, dress, talk and live? like them. Some even had surgeries to look a lot like them.

Pop the KPOP

In case you haven't noticed stores with Korean offerings Etude, TheFaceshop, Bonchon, Kyochon,Tous les Jours are becoming everyone's favorite. Even billboards across Ayala, Guadalupe, Manila are but a familiar face of that hallyu star. They swarm covers of Magazine, standee at malls, Myx/MTV, upbeat tune over radio and almost all local TV stations have Koreanovela right? and myself is a self-confessed Kdrama fan too!

All it takes..

My Kdrama blues began when my sister insisted I should watch this koreanovela because it's kiligerns (kilig in other words) to the highest level! So to stop her from nagging me I said yes half meant but without a bit of intention of spending up to wee hours in the morning to watch this overstated melodramatic Kdrama. Or so I thought because all it takes is 1 episode, and I can't stop watching it until I'm done with the episode. I finished the 16-episode- kdrama in 3 days. So there goes my eyebags and my precious sleep gone by for all the worth of watching this overrated-kdrama and I say no regrets (walang basagan ng trip, pwede?)
Unlike our usual teleserye that can last until a year or more, Kdrama's are in miniseries format that can last up to 16-30 episodes only with kilig stories we can relate to. Gone are the days of Mexican telenovela and here comes Korean wave!

Favorite K-List

So I'm sharing my favorite Kdrama that brought me to tears, frustrates me at some point, made me laughed so hard and yes kilig2x din pag may time, not to mention also to be blamed for these statement bags I wore -my eyebags. <3

RAINY

Happy 4th of July! You just make me wanna sing the "Happy Song" because I'm happy clap along if you feel like-with matching jumping on the side because of the way things turned so far. Aylavit.

July of many beginnings

Where do I start? June was quite hard on me but thankfully I survived half the year almost barely breathing and silently praying "June, have mercy on me please" and "Lord sana matapos na ang June-thingy. You know what they say about prayers? The Lord hears the silent wish of the heart! Praise the Lord!
Anyway, you might be asking what's with the post title. Yes, rainy season na talaga. Infact I came running wet and wild last night. Of all days, and I don't have an umbrella with me.  You know naman Manila, konting ulan leads to one hell traffic..you can imagine that right?

So aside from the fact that I want to officially acknowledge the rainy season, this also goes out to my  dear-lovable-sometimes-moody-pretty-squad of friends. Yes,
RAINY stands for our aliases that is:

Ryzel MarzyLorie (that's me)
Ather Joy Catherine
Ishtar Carina A
Niv Vinnah L
Ynna Anny Rizza

Let me tell you a story of how we came up to form this little friendship that lasted-oh I lost count, but I can vaguely remember 1993. Grade 1 when I met  little Joy. Yeah. So let me recount how I met  these pretty bunches. I am so lucky right?

RAINY pa more

**Joy Catherine**

Needless to say, her name says it all. Joy Catherine is one bouncing happy baby. We met  class opening of 1993.We were Grade 1 by then. Frankly speaking, I don't really like her at first kasi she is so noisy, plus she kept on bragging her 100 test points which equals to Php100. During our time Php10 is just too much for baon so Php100 is like wow (jawdrop).

This girl is a brat with a capital B. We would be class room cleaners together kasi alphabetical order and that our surnames a letter away. I would always hear her show-off everything- her bag, her shoes, her stuff. Goodness. That's all I can remember. Hehe. When I thought I had enough of her, we were still classmates  the rest of elementary and highschool so I kind of get used to it. She's the easy going type, all time awardee ng pagiging hyper and she talks a lot even during classes. Ang daming energy sa katawan nya like a kiti-kiti of that kind. hehe
Being with her most of the time (I can't believe I lasted that long with her)  I've come to know her other side. She is one sweet and generous friend because she would let us borrow her Encyclopedia books (A-Z) whenever we have school assignments during elementary to highschool. I can recall many instances we would go to her house at Crossing Bag-o after school for group work but sideline to hear another litany of you know what.  Joy turns out to be very creative. She has a sharp mind and time to time sharp tongue. I always believe she'll make a good Architect! Yep, that's her dream. If there's one thing I can say about this girl, is that she is really really thoughtful. Well that's just one of her good traits. She is sensitive, sentimental, emotional (meaning crybaby. joke), sincere (OA sa pagkaprangka but in a good way)  but can be irritating at times.

During highschool, I had one too many catfights with her, yes, we argue (like a lot, everyday). She has the ability to make me lose my composure with all her quibbles and grumbles! Evenso, she never fail to make up with her thoughtful cards and notes. See? I told you she's sweet! I think I collected so many cards from her highschool alone. She express her fondness and appreciation through her letters and cards (back to back pa 'yan take note) She even handmade a bookmark with my name during my 18th bday & I was so touched, seriously.

When we parted after high school graduation, she had to fly to Manila. While everyone's busy schooling she has to make living. She turned out to become responsible ate to her siblings and I am so proud of her!  I know she'll likely succeed because she is persistent. She would mail letters with her pictures, and we kept in touch. Parang mag-jowa kami di ba?! I loved it that she's still the same girl I knew back elementary, so full of happiness and never lose hope. During my Manila training, she would hang-out at my place. I was just glad to meet here there! She would plan out to go malling or movie. My idea bonding was like, eat, sleep, and eat more on a Sunday afternoon as weekdays until Saturday is hell-ish.  Anyway, thankfully we settled that before we can even argue hehe.

Joy Catherine aka Ather

 **Vinnah**

I met Niv 4th grade during the time when Thalia-hype is all over the town.  Everyone sings Marimar (and the rest echoes a loud aaaaw!!). She was eagerly talking about it during our gardening session at Mrs. Pesca's class and right then we couldn't stop talking. We just connect you know.

We always regard her as the leader of the band, maybe because she can snap sensible things when all of us are being nonsense. She also has that ability to bring us together eventhough we didn't go to the the same highschool, she would invite us to meet at her place for some langka filled pancake. How awesome is that?

Since we live in the same village, I have so many recollections of us being together. I consider her as one of my truest-of-the-true-bestfriend. She is my  Boy Abunda, and I'm Kris Aquino. That kind of thing. I can open up anything to her. She's like a soft pillow on my bed, my wall when I needed a moment to cry and mag-moment. She got my back all the time.

We would sleep over at their house and just like kids, we would videotape ourselves dancing like no one's watching. Lols. I love Tita Esing because she would allow us to jump over, roll, dance in the bed (which is a good thing because we don't have a decent bed at home.) She would also cook us homemade hotcake with langka jam, dinuguan, adobo, lahat na(perfection!) and we would get crazy over Moffatts or Hanson Brothers (you don't know them right? The joys of the 90's kids.) Tita Esing made us footsocks (hand stitched fyi) during 5th grade as part of our Health & Economics because Mama wouldn't make me one. Niv is one cool chick. Marami syang fans-sure dahil sa killer dimples nya. She is a fighter, not because madaming kaaway of that kind but because she stands for herself, she says what she wants to say kaya I love her sobra! I wish I was that kind. She is hopeless romantic at times. No, I mean most of the time. She hasn't changed that much. She says she keeps falling in love with love (okay.. nosebleed??)

I remember one epic day during our 5th grade at the Maintenance Room beside Mrs. Inventor's classroom. She pushed me inside the room and confronted me about my crush. Yucky. Turns-out we had the same crush on this guy classmate. He's not good looking anymore (like I remember him back then. hehe ). Until today whenever we get together and recall that one fateful afternoon, we couldn't stop laughing so hard about it. Speaking of which the guy's unheard of. Change topic please.

Vinnah aka Niv

**Anny Rizza**

She is darling of the crowd and why not? She is probably our campus' crush, the prettiest that I know.  She was from a private school and I can't help but raise my eyebrow (yes I did).Being a true blood public school kid I know these private-schooled kids are so maarte di ba? Well trust me she is not-at all!

We were introduced by Niv, they were together on the same school before so I thought she seemed on the go. Pretty and good looking is an understatement, because she's a really good person inside and out, soooo down to earth, friendly and so generous to friends. Nobody gets hungry around Anny. She's so generous, with her stuff, with her foods. What you see is what you get. That's her. So before I knew it, I really love this girl!

Anny Rizza laughs a lot, but beware because she is so prangka. She's one tough baby. She doesn't give up easily. Whenever we lose heart over school projects, she's the one to say-Kaya yan. Ako bala. Hehe. She can be mean and feisty too kaya I like her more. We both love Julia Roberts and we can't seem to get over My Bestfriend's Wedding movie.  She would let me borrow her VHS tape (which I sometimes wish she would forget so I can keep it. Joke lang, but I returned it di ba?!) She is pretty much always the muse of the class, crush ng bayan, campus sweetheart and no one can beat her that! She even won Linggo ng Wika Queen. Grabe she nailed it! We would hang out at her Mom's store eating Php1.00 hotcake and palamig juice in merkado. I love those days!

During Saturdays we would go to her place to hang out- kunwari may assignment but the truth is just to eat banana cue, arroz caldo, pandesal and watch VCD (Tatay ng DVD, apo nya si Bluray. Lols.) Good thing Lolo and Lola were kind enough to adopt us. They don't mind us around almost all the time.

Highschool came and we were inseparable. She's my partner in crime. The kind of bestfriend you'd like to keep. Sometimes I think I spent more Saturdays at her place than my own house. We would talk exchange and read together slum books, get kilig over "Who is your first crush" and "Define Love" (Aw grabe). We would call FM radios for song request and greet friends  (that was life when Facebook /Twitter /IG hasn't evolve yet) . She would snap photos of us together ( which I am thankful she did otherwise I wouldn't know how I look like!) I remembered one early Sunday morning, she rushed to my house just to tell me about her special friend (Aheem. grabe sya may lovelife.) I was so happy for her!

You know we go along together very well. We both hated maarte - feelingera girls at school, curse hard subjects and eat ham & cheese sandwich (na kahit ubos na,  walang lasang cheese) pancit with coke at canteen during recess. We kind of argue at times but we make up shortly. We like to exchange letters, stationaries too. During boring classes, we would scribble conversations on notebook like we are listening. The best memory of my highschool moment is with this pretty girl.

Anny Rizza aka Ynna

**Carina**

Spell maldita- Carina. It can be true. Just like Ynna, she transferred 5th Grade from Manila. She was really quiet most of the time (shy-type) but very smart. Turns-out Ynna and Carina are neighbors so we  ended up hanging out together. At school, we became very close doing assignments together. She would allow us to copy her notes and we share a common ground-our love for books and reading.

Saturday was extra special sharing our favorite hotcake, arroz caldo, orange juice for snacks. To my childish mind, it was simply perfection! Ishtar is the caring type. She is forgiving and has soft spot for friends (I'm sure of it). Lahat ng kaaway ko, kaaway nya. (I adore her! hehe) But she is not the kind that tolerates, she never hesitate to scold us (especially Joy). She celebrates birthday earlier than the rest of us.. kaya she is the "ate" of the squad. She can also be a crybaby (yes. at times.) She is suspicious,  un-trusting (sometimes.. uhmm do I have to do this???) I mean she is hard to crack as a person.

We like to spend time at her house because she doesn't mind us eating there all the time, we are free to sing videoke on the top of our lungs and watch more VCD's. Joy enjoys this much than me. She can be sensitive too, and insensitive whenever she wants. She's also mastered yanking which drives us crazy at times! She's my book buddy during weekends and we would invade new bookstores and search pocketbooks.. (oh yeah)

She introduced me to URL chatbox for Php5 - 6/hr just two blocks away from their house (I completely forgot how you called it) We would spend time chatting and behold chat room words like ASL? GTG.OMG,OIC,B4N, but not until the evolution of these jejemon words.. LYLAS, ROFL.. SFLA. (lol)

Highschool days will not be the same without her, because she used to be the referee-between me and Joy and Joy and Anny..(Joy is just like that!)... always has something to say about anything!

Carina aka Ishtar

***

Did I talk too much? Saree.. but I just felt like writing about these half crazy, funny, happy friends I got. I guess I want to remember and retain all our happy moments together back in elementary and high school. It's nice to go back memory lane when days are young. I guess I really miss them all! So when I'm old and gray..I hope I still can memorize this blogname and pick up my memories under my thick old eyeglasses. We may not see and talk everyday, but in my heart, once a true friend-stays a true friend. I love these girls for all their imperfections, and I will not trade it for the world!

Yes, it's me. ( ^_^)  Ryzel
