Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture

So after the formal introduction was over. It was nice to finally meet them  since I transact with them only over email or phone.  Enough with formalities, now we move ahead to our next itinerary, to visit the outskirts of Osaka. First is Kurashiki.

The Kurashiki

Located western part of Okayama Prefecture and just 2 hours drive from Kobe, Kurashiki was named after the word "kura" which means storehouses. Kurashiki is a historic city. If you are watching Samurai X, you might be familiar with Shogunate and the Meiji Era. During the reign of the Shogunate, Kurashiki were mainly built to store goods. Another thing, Kurashiki is also known as the "Venice of Japan", and it really lived up to this name! White walled storehouses along the banks of old canal lined with scenic willow trees and the stone bridge that cross over the water makes a perfect back drop for a photo shoot.

But first, food. We arrived a little before lunch and this welcomed us.
Such a beautiful dinning preparation.
Japanese food preparation is so delectable and inviting.

With our Sacho-san, our gracious and accommodating host.
Domo arigatou gozaimasu!

Rickshaw. An ancient mode of transportation.
A rare beautiful piece of the past of great old Japan.

Museum of Folk craft.
This was once a storehouse which was later on converted into a museum.
It preserves Japan's everyday items like ceramic, textiles, etc.

One major attraction to Kurashiki is Ohara Museum, a Western art museum built way before 1930's.  This is home to some of works of Picasso and Kandinsky. I am not so much an artist savvy so I just tag along appreciating the whole place.

Some trinkets for my friends...

Yes, those are Manga. When  I think about my trip to Kurashiki, I really wished I was able to grab that Kenshin Mags over that boutique. We went for a quick refreshments, and  after our walking tour, we drove to Setouchi.  Not yet done for today!

Next stop, read my entry about  Setouchi, Okayama Prefecture

Love,
